Narberth - Properties
Narberth, a tiny borough of no more than half a square mile, is located in the heart of the Lower Merion Township. About a mile from the corporate limits of Center City, Narberth is bordered by the Montgomery, North Wynnewood, East Wynnewood, Rockland and Haverford Avenues. In 1895, Narberth was officially, the smallest type of government in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Because of its size and layout, Narberth is predominantly a walking town with nearly all the main attractions – shopping, recreational facilities, religious organizations, the library and the school – just a short stroll from the residential areas. Its intimate design makes Narberth one of the most pleasant and safest towns in which to live. Although primarily a residential community, Narberth does boast a small business district with shops located along Haverford, Narberth, Forest and Essex Avenues. Downtown shopping is located conveniently close to mass train and bus transportation.
Despite its size, Narberth is somewhat self-contained, with its own Police Department, volunteer Fire Department, Highway Department, Community Library, and Recreation board. The borough successfully combines a village-like all the conveniences of a larger, commercial town. Narberth also cooperates with Lower Merion Township for additional public services in both regions.
Although local downtown shopping areas are relatively small, they do play a vital role in the Narberth’s continued success. Committed to improving its commercial life, Narberth has joined forces with Lower Merion Township to study the Montgomery Avenue area. Narberth has received town-planning awards from Montgomery County for the developing the Montgomery Avenue Albrecht tract into an area for a Rite-Aid Drug store and the Albrecht Garden Center. On April 9, 2003, the Borough received another Planning Award for successfully completing Phase I of the Downtown Project, which consists of developing needed parking area and retail space.
Narberth also offers some of the best recreational faculties on the Main Line, with two park facilities equipped with all-age suitable playgrounds. The primary facility, Narberth Playground, is located right next to the Municipal Building. This facility features the newly renovated the Sabine Avenue To-Lot.
One of the most desirable Main Line areas for moderately priced home, Narberth’s real-estate market is extremely active. Narberth contains about 1,900 households, and the 2003 Real Estate value was established at $294,806,110. One can also find a great mix of starter homes, singles, twins, town-houses and condominiums – great for young, up-and-coming professionals as well as families. Over 100 homes are sold in Narberth every year, in all price ranges.
